Michigan Central Station | Detroit, Michigan

Wikipedia says: Michigan Central Station (also known as Michigan Central Depot or MCS), built in 1913 for the Michigan Central Railroad, was Detroit, Michigan's passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 after the previous Michigan Central Station burned, until the cessation of Amtrak service on January 6, 1988. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world.

I wasn't too interested in shooting this building because it has been done A LOT. I didn't know how I would make it unique. Darryl and I decided to go ahead and hit it after we were told about the place on three different occasions. So, on the way out of the city we took a gander. It ended up being a nice cherry to end a great day.

Rain drops.

As I was trying to talk Darryl in to finding a hole in the gate we see this guy. I am thankful his fear factor was more reasonable.

More police parked on the South side of the building. I thought it odd he was parked the way that he was.

Darryl makes friends EVERYWHERE.

Here comes the train.

The train does not pass close to the station.

Oh look, Darryl is getting a talking to. Apparently we are trespassing although there are no signs.

I enjoy train graffiti. It makes me wonder about the people that are able to find their moving canvas and have the time and tenacity to produce such works. This is one some should have heeded.

I don't know if this is the po-po or a trespassing citizen. The edge of this wall is probably a hundred yards from the station.

This is the reason why the po-po was parked where he was. This is now an 'entrance' to the train station. People enter, crawl through tunnels into the basement of the station and then use it as their industrial playground.

And this is what might happen if you decide to play in the dilapidated station. That is if you happen to make it out alive. Can you imagine have a grand time running through an industrial playground, being on a natural high, and then seeing "da man" waiting for you?

"Do you have any ID on you?"

"Put your hands behind your back."

"Do you have anything on you that I should know about?"

Here is a visual perspective for ya. There are 3 women on the roof.

... smoking cigarettes.

... and taking video.
I wonder for how long will they try to wait it out up there.

Here's back up. And Darryl got a pic of border patrol. These gentlemen are facing a $200 fine and possible jail time. Oh look, that is a paint ball gun on the ground. I would if that would cause additional charges.
And that's my story about the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit, Michigan.

So Many ????s My Head Hurts

Did you know that electricity is different in other countries? You can’t plug in an item that uses electricity if you go to European countries. And Uncle Tim just informed me that London is different from Paris. Electricity is confusing enough here that I can’t even imagine what goes on in other places. I’m just glad I can go to Canada and use all of my electronic toys. Why does Radio Shack now call their stores The Shack and then The Flap Jack Shack dropped the shack and just call their restaurants Flap Jack? Did that happen in all one meeting?
Have you priced luggage lately? There is the cheap stuff that is inexpensive and looks like it will protect your precious items as well as a paper bag wrapped in plastic wrap. Then there is the expensive stuff that still looks like your stuff still might be comprised.
Have you heard about the resurgence of bed bugs? I have and I have no idea how to keep from becoming a bed bug carrier and bringing them home. I’ve dealt with fleas in the past and I have absolutely no desire to becoming a feed bag for these little critters.
I guess the Euro is dropping in value compared to the US Dollar, this according to Uncle Tim. However, he also believes that it would be best to travel with a credit card. I sent an e-mail to my credit union this morning to apply for one. I’ve basically have been using my debit card that can be run through as a credit card. Jumping the pond is starting to give me a headache.
I know I’m going to look like a tourist I hope no one approaches me for the pigeon drop scam. My cousin caught cut up in this money scheme and was subsequently beat up over it too. Imagine losing a couple of hundred bucks and getting an ass whopping as an added bonus. I wonder about pick-pocket persons. I think I watch too many movies.
What if I get sick or injured? Will my health insurance cover me? I do believe across the pond would be ‘out of network’.
I won’t even begin to think about cell phone usage. Roaming fees my ass. I think my special lady friend is going to have to go without talking to me a few times a day at $1.50 a minute. I guess I could be a good boyfriend and get her a web cam and microphone for her computer so we can Skype.
Crap this is starting to sound like an infomercial – just with a bunch of different companies. I have to call Physicians Health Plan to see what I have to do to not end up in a garbage can if I break a leg.

Thanks for your time, ~M

P.S.
PHP covers emergency services only so I can’t go in for a checkup and have that covered but if I break a leg I can submit for a reimbursement which may or may not mean I would have to pay the bill 1st. Let’s pray for no busting of my ass. Ha.

496 Project

In preparation for this trip to London & Paris I have realized the trip begins long before with a journey. I thank you for sharing in this journey with me.

There is an artery through Lansing that if you have traveled on it once you have probably traveled on it a thousand times.
If you were to stop your car and could see what was below what would you imagine to be seen?

Just in case you are not sure where I mean - this is to the left of you.

And this is to the right of you.

It amazes me how perpendicular life may be and we may never have the luxury to have this phenomenon revealed to us.

What seems ordinary sometimes becomes extraordinary.

One person's revelation is probably garbage to someone.

This is my favorite. Do you know why? Can you speculate...

Where did you come and to where are you going?

The artistic ability seems lacking to me. If I could, I would challenge the people of Cap-City to improve their art that is graffiti.

From below but you probably have no idea what it is like from above. Have you ever wondered how much you are missing?

In which direction are you going?

West 496 East.
Thank you for your time,

~Melik
